Death becomes you
Topic: Henryk Gorecki's Symphony number 3 (Symphony of sorrowful songs)
Sometimes it's easy to just give in. I don't know how much sense it makes to compress the entire history of human suffering in something like 52 minutes. The immediate inspiration for Gorecki's Symphony number 3 would be a bit of graffiti found on the wall of a Nazi death camp, but that's not the point. The first movement, which is in the form of a canon, with vocals added, is perhaps the most depressing music I've ever heard, which makes it so sublimely beautiful. It makes you recall the hurt, whatever little in magnitude, that you have suffered and makes you one with the greater suffering of humanity. It's very dark indeed, and the corridors seem endless. Endless because they go back in time to when suffering was a notion attributed to a self that pretty much had all or nothing to do with us.
Does depressing music make you feel suicidal? With me, it does. It probably doesn't mean I'm going to stuff myself with sleeping pills, but as a state of mind, it is morbidly reassuring.

When I feel suicidal, music calms me. I will check this out.
Thank you, you just cleared something up for me: Sadness and depression is the lonliness feeling in the world.
But as you say in refernce to this music, "It makes you recall the hurt, whatever little in magnitude, that you have suffered and makes you one with the greater suffering of humanity."
You sum it up beautifully. By being one with humanity's suffering, you're no longer so alone.
Gives me some hope that some of my more depressing poetry can actually be inspiring to others, and vice-versa with their work.
